What are Shin Splints?
There are two types of shin splints, and both create cortical tears in the bone, causing pain. Anterior compartment shin splints are lateral to the shin bone and are a result of a weak anterior tibia muscle. Doing foot exercises with resistance fixes this. Posterior compartment shin splints are medial to the shin from excess foot pronation. Foot orthotics usually relieve this. Both types respond to a compression wrap.
