Orthotics: Why They Work - Triad Foot Center

Orthotics: Why You Need Them

It’s a common misconception that shoe inserts are only meant to alleviate arch pain.  Many years ago, orthotics might have been more limited in their design, but today custom orthotics can treat a variety of conditions.

Recently, a patient was surprised to learn that the majority of foot problems are a result of improper mechanics of the foot.  This includes heel spurs, arthritis, neuromas and arch pain, also known as plantar fasciitis. Functional orthotics are designed to control and improve the mechanics of the foot, improving many of the symptoms related to these conditions. Orthotics are also effective in improving knee, hip, lower back pain and lower leg pain, which is often the result of excessive pronation. Using a functional orthotic increases stability to the foot which allows the muscles of the lower leg to be less stressed.

Many people who don’t necessarily have foot problems could still benefit from custom orthotics.  So, the next time your back is sore after a walk, or when your knee gives you a little trouble, consider getting a gait analysis from a podiatrist!  A custom orthotic might be the solution to a more pain-free life!  If you’re ready to get started, contact us here to request an appointment!
