Managing Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain
If you are one of the millions of Americans who suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis, you know that living with pain can be a constant struggle. We see patients on a regular basis who have particularly unpleasant pain in their feet and ankle joints, and we’re often asked how they can help manage the discomfort.
There are a few things you can do to lessen pain in your feet from RA. If you are overweight, your first goal should be to lose some weight. Every extra pound adds stress to your joints. Secondly, get moving! Exercise helps lessen pain, and stretching exercises help build strength in weakened joints. Learn to pace yourself by spreading out activities over time rather than in one day. Your feet will thank you. Lastly, be sure to see your podiatrist and rheumatologist for treatment options. An occupational and physical therapist may also be a beneficial addition to your family of health care professionals.
