Triad Foot Center Fights Breast Cancer at the Women’s Only 5k!
Triad Foot Center, along with 3,000 women of the Triad, took to the streets on October 5, 2013, to fight breast cancer. The Women’s Only 5k Walk and Run raised over $110,000 to help provide mammogram screenings for women who are unable to afford them.
“It was a huge success,” says Bonnie Bonkemeyer, a member of Team Triad Foot. “We love to give back to the community and women in need. Breast cancer affects so many women in Guilford County and Triad Foot Center is more than happy to walk a few miles if that means we can help save someone’s life.”
Triad Foot Center not only participated in the race, they passed out goodies at their booth to runners to help them recover from the race. These included things like towels, ice packs, back packs, bags, cups and band aids. Triad Foot Center also raffled off an iPod Shuffle to those who visited their booth.
“We are always looking for ways to help build awareness of overall health,” says Triad Foot Center podiatrist Dr. Norman Regal. “Our female team, who represented all of us at Triad Foot, had a great time and is looking forward to doing more events in the future that benefit our community.”
The Women’s Only 5k Walk and Run is an annual event sponsored by Cone Health that benefits the Mammography Scholarship Fund, which provides free mammograms and follow-up care for uninsured women or women who lack the financial means to pay for this live-saving screening.
