DYK? Hammertoes are Caused by a Muscle Imbalance in the Toes
Did you know that a hammertoe is the most common deformity of the second, third, or fourth toe? This painful condition forms due to an imbalance in the surrounding muscles, tendons, or ligaments that normally keep the toe straight. While this condition forms from an imbalance, ill-fitting shoes will aggravate the condition and cause it to worsen. Because of the progressive nature of hammertoes, early treatment is key because they usually get worse over time. There are many non-invasive ways to treat hammertoes, but when they become painful and more rigid, surgery may be recommended.
